AUGUST NEWSLETTER
What a surprize! Did you enjoy those few cool August nights? And what glorious sunshining days and starry, starry nights. What an unusual winter season; what winter? Confused? That’s what I am. Which takes me to my next point.
When Dr. John Gray wrote the book, “Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus” he hit the nail on the head. Women and men perplex each other. Women’s complexity of emotions resulting from their myraid of hormones and men who hide in their caves. I’m puzzled by the actions or inactions of our male counterparts, probably as much as they are by me. In fact, I know so because they tell me so.
We women love to talk about problems. In general women love to talk about anything and everything. Men generally love to fix problems. Isn’t that right? So if that’s true, why don’t men do the same about their own health issues?
Commonly, women appear to be more concerned with their own health and that of their family and will regularly visit doctors, dentists and other clinics. Women have been conditioned to see doctors from a young age because of their need for health checks for contraception and pap smears.
However research shows men are another issue altogether. Men are more likely to give priority to their work committments rather than rest or treatment. It’s like illness equals weakness and that image reflects poorly; it’s not masculine because ‘real’ men don’t complain. Besides going to a doctor is a chick thing, so ‘real’ men tend to “tough” it out and ignore problems. Men are less likely to discuss their health and fear the consequences of illness and disease. So it’s not usually until something is seriously wrong before they take action. No wonder women nag!
“Male health problems are not just a men’s issue because of the impact on wives, mothers, daughters and sisters. Men’s health is truly a family issue.” Congressman Bill Richardson. So all ‘real’ men should look after themselves like they do their vehicles. If they visited their doctors as often as they get their vehicles serviced, their own body engines would remain more finely tuned. Health issues would be detected earlier and extreme sickness or illness could be prevented. And to top it off, a nagging woman might get off their case. Which is worse?
It has been said that if a symptom lasts more than 24 hours it should be assessed by a qualified practioner for relief from pain. Easily treated problems can turn into life threatening situations if left unattended.
Thanks to much research, the most common problems for men have been identified as toilet health, mental health, chest health, head health and general heath. So to all you ‘real’ men these are some of the identified symptons by Health WXrks from their 2008 Health & Lifestyle Programme that you should be looking out for to help your own body engine run at it’s optimum level because ‘real’ men have ‘real’ issues.

Mental Health
There are many and varied symptoms of which we all experience from time to time, however when symptoms become severe and long lasting this is when to take action in seeking help.
