“You are what you eat”?

“I’m so excited…!” Remember that song? Well that’s me. I’ve just moved out of home!!! Can you believe it? I’m 45 going on 35; Viva Forever Young! Turning back time.
Now are you ready for a few more health beauty tips and more. Cause here goes. This is May’s marvellous news.
There’s more to food than ‘meats’ the eye. Remember the old saying “You are what you eat”? So what you put in your body will show on your skin. Remember to keep a balanced diet including the 5 food groups – meat, poultry and fish; bread and grains; fats; dairy; and finally fruit and vegetables. There’s no shortcut for naturally beautiful skin but you can literally ‘feed your face’ for fantastic REsults because your skin has a REmarkable ability to REjuvenate. You can do this from both sides. Let’s start on the inner.
Are you ready to ’stuff yourself ‘? There are 10 super foods known to make you beautiful from the inside out, and turn back the hands of time.
1) Sweet Potato – Packed with beta-carotene, 1 sweet potato has more than the recommended daily allowance of VitaMIN A. VitaMIN A is a great cell protector and moisture REtainer. It increases the rate of skin turnover, so newer, younger looking cells are pushed to the surface. Beta-carotene is a powerful anti-oxidant that destroys free radicals ; free radicals cause skin cell damage bringing on aging. So if you’re not a sweet potato fan then try red capsicums, carrots or perhaps artichokes for other good sources of VitaMIN A.
2) Oysters – Not just a ‘love potion‘ but a great source of zinc; zinc is a major factor in skin for protection, REnewal and REpair. This MINeral is important for super healthy hair, stronger nails and healthier skin. Oysters are also a good source of selenium which also helps protect your skin against sun damage, preserving elasticity so your skin will look younger longer. Six cooked oysters contains nearly half the daily recommended allowance of VitaMIN B12. If you can’t handle oysters, other foods high in VitaMIN B are green beans and tomatoes.
3) Blueberries – Full of colour and anti-oxidants these berries contain at least 5 plant pigments that give fruit their red, purple or blue colour which boost the effects of VitaMIN C. VitaMIN C is a terrific anti-aging source; it stimulates natural collagen and elastin giving our skin its elasticity which in turn helps REduce the signs of aging. Blueberries provide the number 1 anti-oxidant activity compared to 40 common fresh fruits and vegetables.
4) Kiwi Fruit – To REduce those wrinkles. 1 cup of peeled kiwi contains more VitaMIN C than the same amount of oranges. Amazing. Kiwi is also rich in VitaMIN C which is usually found in nuts and oils. So REduce your wrinkles with fruit and vegies rich in VitaMIN C. REsearch confirms that high VitaMIN C intake is associated with less wrinkles. So what should you be doing?
5) Tomatoes – Cooked tomatoes slow aging. Tomatoes contain a great amount of the anti-aging lycopene anti-oxidant. Cooked and processed tomatoes allows the lycopene to be more easily absorbed by the body. Bring on the pasta, especially the spaghetti bog. Adding 5 tablespoons of tomato paste to your daily diet can improve the skin’s ability to protect itself against the sun’s harmful UV rays. Tomotoes are also great sources of VitaMIN C, A & E.
6) Spinach – Love it or hate it, but ‘POPEYE, the sailor man’ knew that spinach packed some ‘punch’ in more ways than one. Spinach spells ‘beta’ health for you and me. 1 cup of boiled and drained spinach has nearly as much beta-carotene as a baked sweet potato. Its loaded with alpha-lipoic acid which aids in lightening skin pigmentation. Not only is spinach a great anti-aging source, it’s also a protector of nerve cells meaning it may help prevent effects of aging on the brain. Do you reckon that might be a good tip to remember? I certainly do. Additionally the green raw stuff is packed full of folate and provides 15% of our recommended daily allowance. Folate is for production and maintenance of new cells. And that’s not all! Spinach is so rich in the iron MINeral. Iron deficiency causes fatigue and anemia. You can maximize its absorption by drinking a glass of orange juice with your meal. What a mighty powerful ‘punch’!
7) Salmon – This fish is chock-a-block full of omega 3 fatty acids helping your skin to retain moisture and remain supple. Also a good source of VitaMIN D and the MINerals, selenium and potassium. The latter improves blood circulation giving your skin a boost of nutrients. VitaMIN D helps heal irritated skin and may help clear up skin conditions such as psoriasis. Egg yolks and dark green leafy vegetables are also richest in VitaMIN D. Here’s another interesting tip. Salmon’s rare source of DMAE or dimenthylaminoethanol (that’s a mouthful) improves muscle tone and firmness in your face, thereby reducing wrinkles. Who needs botox when eating salmon?
8) Walnuts – Contains maganese and copper helping the fight against grey hair. I desparately need more of that! The magic, allagic acid in walnuts fights against cancer and toxins. Rich in VitaMIN E to slow cellular damage and promote healthy tissue regeneration. Almonds and other nuts are also rich in Vitamin E.
9) Yogurt – For a healthy tummy by inhibiting bad bacteria in your gut. It’s a delicious source of calcium and potassium. Remineralizing your body for beautiful nails and healthy teeth. P.S. How much to eat? Include at least 1 of the top 10 beauty foods with every meal or snack or substitute for another food that is similarly rich and pure and beneficial to those nutrients.
